Today Post::Minissha Lamba And Amrita Rao Catch Up?

The petite and pretty Minissha Lamba who was last seen in 'Kidnap' has been keeping busy shooting for Shyam Benegal's ‘Abba Ka Kuan’ and hence has not been able to socialize with some of her dear friends.

So Minissha Lamba, who was recently returning home from the capital, was in for a pleasant surprise to meet her long time friend Amrita Rao on the flight.

From what we hear, the two of them instantly got down chatting about everything under the sun and catching up on each other. Needless to say, the duo was seen having a gala time throughout the journey.

Owing to professional and personal commitments, apparently both Minissha and Amrita have not been in touch for a long time so the flight happened to be the perfect bonding opportunity for the duo.

Today Post::World War I Soldiers

This picture shows World War I Soldiers. The picture was taken in 1917 at Camp Meade in Maryland. I do not know a whole lot about World War I. I have always been interested in the Civil War, so I have read a lot about that conflict, but have never done much study on the War to End all Wars.

Today Post::Aamir Khan's Embarrassing Emergency?

Aamir Khan had an embarrassing situation yesterday. He needed to use a bathroom urgently and had to rush past journalists who were waiting him at a press conference.

Aamir was stuck in the traffic for two and a half hours and was desperately looking for a bathroom. By the time he reached the five star hotel, he was almost pushing past the media and pleaded that he needed to use the bathroom.

We can't help but feel a little bad for Aamir now.

Today Post::K.O.

So we went back to 7Pecados at Sofitel Philippine Plaza last Wednesday for the second of its World Wide Wednesdays themed parties. As I mentioned after the first one, the theme was Knock Out Night and sure enough, it was all about boxing. Very timely, as Manny Pacquiao, the “Pambansang Kamao” (national fist), fights for his seventh world title in a seventh weight division against Miguel Cotto this weekend. The stage where the band performs was set up like a boxing ring and a video documentary about Pacquiao was being shown onscreen.

Boxing gloves were hanging from the ceiling. At least, the parts that weren’t tiled in mirrors. I didn’t notice it the first time, but the ceiling at the center of the room isn’t mirrored. The huge pillar beside the bar is though, which made for more interesting reflections.

The members of the band Blind Curve were dressed up in athletic gear. Ummm, sort of. I doubt if trainers allow stiletto-heeled rubber shoes in the gym.

Even the servers were in shorts, tees and jackets. I hope this doesn’t get them into trouble, but I found it funny-cute that between waiting on customers, they were playing around with the iMacs, either surfing the web or having fun with Photo Booth.

And as I promised myself, I didn’t get knocked out on Knock Out Night. I was a good girl and only had one glass of Singapore Sling (gin, cherry brandy, pineapple juice, lime juice, orange liqueur, herbal liqueur and grenadine syrup). I can’t promise I’ll be as good on the 18th, the next WWW@7Pecados party with its theme of Masquerade. I’m looking forward to that one and really hoping that it’s Venetian. I wonder though, will it be masks on or masks off?

Today Post::A god's plaything

If Jupiter (Zeus) decides to take the form of your husband, will you be able to tell the difference? Alcmene didn’t when Jupiter appeared to her as her husband, the Theban general Amphitryon, in Heinrich von Kleist’s 1807 play. Mostly a comedy but one which raises metaphysical questions, “Amphitryon” was translated into Tagalog by Jerry Respeto and it was performed by the University of the Philippines’ resident student theater group Dulaang U.P. last September as their third play of the season.

Today Post::Gettysburg Veteran

This is a picture of a Veteran of the Battle of Gettysburg. The picture was taken in 1913, at the Battlefield. It was the 50th Anniversary of the Battle. One has to wonder what he is writing.

Today Post::Old Rebels

Today’s OPOD was taken in 1917. It shows a nice group of Rebel soldiers. I am not sure where the picture was taken. This is a fine group of Southern Gentlemen. Zoom in on the picture, and notice how proud each man is standing. The other thing I notice about the picture is that they are holding the US flag. Many of the pictures of Veterans have the Rebels still holding their battle flag.

Today Post::The silver screen diva

I remember I bought some old fashioned photos of 1920s and 1930s actresses at a vintage fair while I was an undergraduate. I don’t know how famous this actress was in her days. I would have liked to know how this photo got to the vintage fair: I find so fascinating how such a simple photo documenting and remembering someone’s life “travels” through time.

Today Post::Abhishek & Sonam Are No More In Mirza Sahiban?

The script for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's next film is almost done. "Actually it's a couple of scripts and I will choose from them," says the director.

He admits he is in all probability making the period romance Mirza Sahiban next.

But the original cast Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor may change. "The moment you write with actors in mind you restrict them and yourself. So I'd rather wait until the script is finished before casting."

Rakeysh showed the new-cut version of Delhi 6 at the Venice Film Festival on September 9. "The kind of reception I got in a 1600-seater theatre was unexpected. It was meant to be only one screening. But they suddenly decided to screen the film on the closing day of the Festival which is very prestigious."

Now Rakeysh intends to release the new version of Delhi 6 (with Abhishek Bachchan's character dying off) in India very shortly.

Today Post::After life

This would have been more appropriate for All Souls’ Day last November 2, but as they say, better late than never. This is the Sanctuarium, the largest columbarium that I know of in Metro Manila. Aside from at least six levels of vaults for cinerary urns, it has three levels of wake chapels, a Buddhist temple, and it also offers funeral and cremation services.

I apologize for the lack of visits this past week, but my schedule and work load has been a bit crazy again. I hope that things will normalize soon so I can see everyone’s wonderful photos. In the meantime, I wish you all a very happy weekend!

Today Post::Green strip

I’ve already posted a picture of Bonifacio High Street before, and here’s another, this time taken from the roofdeck of Fully Booked. If you enlarge the photo, you can see that large spider of a rock (Reg Yuson’s “Specific Gravity”) and some of the shopping and dining promenade’s other water features. Unlike the other side, this side of Bonifacio Global City is more densely built up. I really hope it doesn’t get much worse than this.

Today Post::Concentrate to the present moment

Do not dwell in the past,
do not dream of the future,
concentrate the mind on the present moment.

Buddha

Hi my friends,
I want to say thank you for all your wonderful words to my rather sad post from yesterday. That’s what real friendship means for me - also in our virtual world - it’s fantastic to see how people from all over the world are here for each other with good and supporting words.
This kind of friendship means a lot to me!

Have a wonderful day!
Susanne
