THEME DAY: DOORWAYS • The current Manila Cathedral in the old walled city of Intramuros was finished in 1958. It is the eighth church and sixth cathedral to stand on the site since 1581. Its main doors, over which a magnificent arch rises, each has four bronze panels created by the Italian sculptors Alessandro Monteleone (1897–1967) and Francesco Nagni (1897–1977). According to the Manila Cathedral website, the eight bronze relief panels represent important episodes in the history of the cathedral. I wish it had more information than that—I would love to know what events these panels depict.

It seems Rani Mukherjee is enjoying her stint as a judge on small screen. The actress is being a perfect mentor to her contestants too and when it comes to give them comments she leaves no stone unturned for it too.
Our source from the sets reports, "Rani loves her role on television and is enjoying every moment of it. Along side she sees to it that what ever comments she is giving to the participants, the message should reach them in correct way."
Recently it was seen how Rani talked in a sign language to one contestant who was disabled from ears. "Again in the next episode, Rani liked the performance of a contestant from Maharashtra to an extent that she gave him good comments and that too in Marathi, " adds the source.

Today’s picture shows a rural mail delivery service. The picture was taken in 1914. I have said it before, I will say it again. There is something very appealing about the slower pace of the early last century. Also, I noticed that most of the people that had something nice to say about the post office this week were from rural areas. I agree . . . we live in a rural area, and the postman lady is very nice and goes out of her way to be helpful.

All set for a new Hollywood venture Mallika Sherawat made her triumphant return to Los Angeles on Tuesday night in charitable fashion along with Oscar winner Marisa Tomei, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to support American Pulitzer Prize winning NY Times journalist Nicholas Kristof's charity CARE at LA's Pacific Design Centre.
Mallika said, “Nicholas Kristof is a world treasure. The work he’s done around the globe in support of women’s rights and those-in-need is an incredible inspiration to me.”
Mr. Kristof and Mallika were overheard discussing working together for one of his charitable associations in India, as well as the feature film production based on his new book, “Half the Sky”.
Mallika was also seen bonding with Oscar -winning American actress Marisa Tomei, who, upon hearing of Mallika’s extended stay in Los Angeles, told the Indian star, “You’re going to do very well here.”

She has a legacy of cinema behind her, takes interest in different aspects of filmmaking and might one day go behind the camera like her grandfather and father. But right now Kareena Kapoor says she is happy being an actress.
“I like to know who is going to be the director of photography of my film. How am I going to look.
Mostly what happens is when a script is narrated to you, it doesn’t turn out to be the same on screen. So an actor has to know all this,” Kareena said at the HT Leadership Summit in the capital Saturday.
When asked would she go behind the camera like her legendary granddad Raj Kapoor and father Randhir Kapoor, she said: “As of now I am getting good roles, so not now. But yeah, I don’t rule that out… one day I might direct.”

This picture was taken in 1938, and shows the Post Office’s early investigation of shuttle air mail service. The picture shows the use of a gyro-copter to shuttle mail between the Washington DC post office, and the Washington airport. The gyro-copter could take off and land in short distances, and it was hoped it could make short-hop airmail service feasible. I guess the idea never really took hold. I find it interesting to read the comments this week on the frustration people have with the post office. In my last job, where I had a high-tech start up company, I found it interesting to observe the difference between the service of Fed-Ex and the post office. The Fed-Ex truck would show up right on time. Once the truck stopped, the guy would literally jump out with the package, and RUN to our door. When he came in you noticed that he was dressed in neat, new, pressed shorts and pressed shirt. He was trim, and always had a neat, short haircut. He was courteous, and businesslike. He would greet us, deliver the package, and then RUN back to his truck. On the other hand, the post office guy would show up later than advertised. He had clothes that did not fit, his shirt tail was out, he had shaggy hair, and the front of his shirt was covered with mustard and ketchup from his extra long lunch break. He wandered around the building a little before finally coming around with ! our package, and then would tell us something that was wrong about the way we were using the post office. Interesting, I am not describing two people, but two organizations . . . all the Fed Ex guys were like the one I describe above, and all the Post Office guys were like the one described above. It is interesting how different private sector services operate vs. government services. Some day I will relay my stories from the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Perizaad Zorabian is now the proud mother of a baby boy. She had her baby at 11.30 am yesterday.
This is Perizaad's second child, her first being daughter Zaha with husband Boman Irani. Perizaad was hoping to have a son next. The child was born at Lilavati Hospital.
Boman and Perizaad took Hindu and Parsi calendars into consideration and set the date for the caesarean delivery. The couple has decided on a few names for their son. Perizaad is happy that her family is now complete.
The news was confirmed by Perizaad's manager who stated that both Perizaad and the newborn are doing well.

Asin and Ajay Devgan had a fun time shooting for London dreams. A unit source revealed. "Ajay would always pull Asin’s leg and sometimes Asin would play pranks on Ajay. One day two challenged each other on tongue twisters.
Ajay challenged Asin to speak Hindi tongue twister at one go, while Asin would challenge Ajay to English tongue twisters.” And invariably Asin would land up winning the game. The source continued saying, “Asin met Kajol too on the sets of London Dreams.
The two got along well.” Apparently Asin met Kajol for the first time during the Ghajini shoot. “The two happened to be shooting in the same studio. Asin was shooting for Ghajini, while Kajol was shooting for Toonpur Ka Superhero.
Asin went up to Kajol when she got to know she was in the same vicinity. The two have known each other since then.”

Today’s picture is from 1918, and shows a woman in the Post Office. I really like the old style wood counter. Today everything is metal, Formica or other manufactured material. I really miss the old style woodwork like in this picture.
