Today Post::No flood here

I’ve always admired this house at the end of my sister-in-law’s street. I like the wooden gate, the stone walls and accents, the landscaped gardens and the two story-high living room and windows. They can’t be seen very well here, but it also has a magnificent chandelier and a grand curving staircase. I think it’s a very lovely home.

Moongirl, a Filipina currently living in California, has compiled all of the different ways of giving to help the victims of typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana) if you’re abroad. I’ve shamelessly copied the online routes below but she also lists cities and towns that are accepting donations for the Philippines. Read her “Donating to Manila from abroad” article to learn more. Wherever you are, I hope you can find it in your heart to help the hundreds of thousands of Filipinos who have just lost their homes and everything else, and who still do not have power, water and food in their areas. And if you have already given, many, many thanks and may God bless you for your generosity.

Today Post::Aamir Khan To Screen 3 Idiots For A.R. Murugadoss

No wonder, it's something that every actor would do– invite close friends for grand premiere'. Perhaps, if you had drawn such presumptions, you're wrong, as Aamir plans up for something different.

It's a well-known fact that Aamir Khan– Mr. Perfectionist has a special concern for his each film and puts on his earnest efforts for best results. At the moment, he is close on the heels of completing final schedule of Rajkumar Hiran's '3 Idiots', based on Chetan Bhagat's novel 'Five Point Someone'.

Meanwhile, he has decided to host special screening for his family members and close friends seeking for their feedback. On heeding to their views, Aamir would insist Rajkumar Hirani to make modifications or re-shoot certain sequences if situations arise.

According to the closer sources of Aamir Khan, it has been revealed that the actor has planned to invite A.R. Murugadoss for special screening.

'3 Idiots' starring Aamir Khan, Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles is all set to hit screens on Dec 25 for the occasion of Christmas.

Today Post::Bootblack

I learn that Shoeshine Boys used to be called “Bootblacks”. This picture shows just such a boy on the corner of 3rd Avenue and 9th street in New York City. I like the clothes and hats the people are wearing. I think style and fashion pretty much hit its peak in the 1910 era.

Today Post::John Abraham To Bring The Men Back

John Abraham has been roped in as the brand ambassador for Maruti SX4, the high-end car from Maruti.

The details of the contract are still being figured out. However, John has given a nod to become the face of Maruti SX4, considering the nature of the tagline Men are Back, which very well gels with the macho personality of John.

John is renowned for his love for bikes. And recently, he launched the latest bike form Yamaha. If sources are to be believed, the decision to endorse Maruti SX4 was taken soon after he launched the bike and came back to Mumbai from the Delhi tour.

"The shooting for the commercial will commence very shortly to woo buyers for the festive season, " source signs off.

Today Post::Do you know the formula for success?

“Would you like me to give you a formula for success? It's quite simple, really. Double your rate of failure. You are thinking of failure as the enemy of success. But it isn't at all. You can be discouraged by failure or you can learn from it, So go ahead and make mistakes. Make all you can. Because remember that's where you will find success.”

~ Thomas J. Watson ~

Hi my friends,

I’m late today with posting, I know. We have visited a friend and went out to the beach this afternoon - and it was very nice, but hot. I shot some beach scenes photos. It was overwhelming to listen to the sound of the breaking waves coming in to the shores, it was “high-tide” time. I will show you some of them maybe tomorrow, so be patience :)

Thank you for all the kind comments to my post from yesterday.
I’m glad you liked that nostalgic photo.

See you tomorrow, see you here!

Today Post::I Want To Experiment With Different Genres

After doing serious movies like “Fashion” and “Jail”, model-turned-actress Mugdha Godse says she is looking to do something different.

“I want to experiment with different genres. I am looking forward to comedy, action and, of course, a romantic movie. I do not want to get typecast, ” Mugdha told.

After her debut in Madhur Bhandarkar’s film “Fashion”, where is featured as a model, Mugdha is getting offers to play more of the same kind of roles.

“I don’t know when the right opportunity will come along, ” said the 24-year-old who has become selective about her roles. “It’s not always the director or the script, but I give importance to the character I am going to enact. If I feel I am fit for it, I take the project, ” Mugdha, who was here Thursday to launch and promote Modicare products, said.

Today Post::Appropriate light

The head office of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (Central Bank of the Philippines) is located along Roxas Boulevard in the City of Manila, right across Manila Bay and its beautiful sunsets. Their buildings (this is only one of several in the compound) are all unremarkable gray concrete blocks, but a golden sunset can make them look almost beautiful.

Relief operations for the victims of Ondoy are going on all over the metro. I’ve been to two already, one for a large poor community just down our street where the waters reached at least chest-high and a much larger operation in my own university for the hard-hit cities of Marikina and Cainta, Rizal and other areas. For those abroad who wish to help, the Fil-Am website Barrio Siete has started a “Barrio Bayanihan for Ondoy Victims” and is accepting donations through PayPal which will all be turned over to the Philippine National Red Cross.

Today Post::Rani & Kajol's Cousin Made A Come Back

Kin of the famous Mukherjee family, Sharbani Mukherjee is to begin all over again in Hindi films. She was believed to be one of the most promising actresses in the industry after the success of her debut film Border.

But unfortunately fate did not smile on her for long. She faced consecutive flops in her career after Border. Neither the family connection, nor the stardom of the first film brought any big opportunity her way.

On the other hand, her cousins Kajol and Rani climbed the ladder, with one after the other success at the box office and continue to rule the industry till today.

After a small hiatus she has recently done a Malyalam film 'Sufi Paranja Katha'. And soon she will be back in Hindi films with Sangeeth Sivan's next. The yet untitled film is due for release in November.

Hope the brown-eyed girl succeeds to charm the audience this time!

Today Post::Sushmita Is Having A Tough Time

It seems like our dazzling Sushmita Sen is having a tough time sticking in the industry as a mainstream actress. Apparently, she didn't get quiet a good opportunity to even sing and dance in the movie 'Do Knot Disturb'.

The song named 'Bebo' from the film 'Do Knot Disturb' is climbing up the charts, but the music video only features Ritesh Deshmukh and Lara Dutta. Along with this music video, there is another remix video of 'Bebo', which features Govinda, Sushmita Sen and Ritesh Deshmukh.

Supposedly this remix video was shot, after the film was shot, since Sushmita Sen wanted to be a part of it. It is very evident that Sushmita Sen is doing another heroine's remix dance number.

Today Post::Salman Khan Will Gets His Friends Back

It’s Salman Khan time in Bollywood. With his full-on actioner “Wanted” becoming a hit, the superstar has millions of rupees riding on his shoulders with three more big-budget films lined up. And all his friends in the industry - from David Dhawan to Vipul Shah - are rejoicing at the actor’s success.

“Wanted” earned about Rs.38 crore (Rs.380 million) across the country in its first week and industry experts feel that the film’s good business will help Salman’s forthcoming releases - “Main aur Mrs. Khanna”, “London Dreams” and “Veer”.

“Salman always knew when and where to strike. He was always very confident about ‘Wanted’ and this is the reason why he went all out to promote the film,” Dhawan, who has worked with Salman in more than half a dozen films, told.

“Forget first weekend collections; it was sheer havoc when Eid festivities began. Audience response inside auditoriums was unprecedented,” he added.

Directed by Prabhu Deva, “Wanted” was a raw action-drama comparable to Aamir Khan’s “Ghajini”.

“Salman may have done one or two bad films in recent times due to which it appeared to some that he was no more in the reckoning. They were mistaken though because he is beyond hits and flops,” said Abbas Burmawalla of director duo Abbas-Mustan.

“His strong fan base could sense from a distance that ‘Wanted’ was a film to watch out for and turned it into such a huge success,” he added.

Salman’s “Yuvvraaj” and “God Tussi Great Ho” bombed at the box office and many believed he was down and out. But the industry doesn’t quite believe so.

” ‘Wanted’ is Salman’s one-man show. Yes, everyone involved with the film has done a fabulous job, but it is Salman’s pull that got the audiences into theatres. Otherwise director Prabhu Deva was making his first Hindi film while Ayesha Takia isn’t amongst the top three heroines that we have today,” said Sanjay Kapoor, brother of Boney Kapoor who produced “Wanted”.

“He gave ‘Wanted’ his full support and led the entire promotional campaign. He was supremely excited about the film and gave his heart, body, soul and time to its making followed by promotion,” he added.

Vipul Shah, who has worked with Salman in the film “London Dreams” that releases Oct 30, is happy that Salman’s three-film stint this year has got off to a good start with “Wanted”.

“My promotion plan though is not as expensive as that of ‘Wanted’.

We are going right ahead in creating awareness around ‘London Dreams’, but the spillover of ‘Wanted’ should also help our campaign. Since ‘Wanted’ is all over, I am sure the euphoria and Salman’s presence amongst audiences will continue for many more weeks to come,” said Shah.

Filmmaker Suneel Darshan, who has never worked with Salman, is a little guarded before declaring this as a golden run of the actor.

” ‘Wanted’ has done quite well in India but its fate in the overseas market has been contradictory. With crores of rupees riding on his shoulders in the current season on ‘Veer’, ‘London Dreams’ and ‘Main aur Mrs. Khanna’, all due to release shortly, god forbid if anything goes wrong, it will have severe repercussions on the industry’s economy. This is just another interesting phase for Salman…,” he said.

Himesh Reshammiya, with whom Salman has had a decade-long association, has a final word though. “Salman was a superstar, is a superstar and will always remain a superstar.”

Today Post::Shoe Shine Boy

Based on yesterday’s OPOD, I could have made this either “Chicken Week” or “Shoeshine Week”. I have decided to go with Shoeshine Boys. I reserve the right to switch back to chickens if I run out of good pictures of shoeshine boys. Anyway, this picture was taken in 1908 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The boy is Greek.

Shoe shining is pretty much a thing of the past, which is too bad. Back when I was growing up, you could always make a little money by shining your parents shoes, and if you were a little more energetic, you could take your little box to a public place. I rarely see shoe shine stands any more.
